UK grime’s Great White Hype/Hope. Lady Sovereign aka the trash-talkin’18-year-old and self-described "white midget" has more buzz than tinnitus right now, thanks to a series of hott British singles and appearences with Dizee Rascal and The Streets. Her latest EP, Vertically Challenged will be released over here in the US on Chocolate Industries on November 15 (including a remix done by beatie boy Ad Rock). Her full length with the tentative title of "Straight Up Cheeky" is expected for Spring 2006 but which lucky label will release it? Well, Universal’s got its tentacles wrapped around her worldwide, but in the U.S.A., the pint-sized princess has been in talks with Def Jam, having been flown out to New York City by the label’s president, Shawn Carter. Yes, that’s right: Jay-Z is trying to sign Lady Sovereign!?!?!?!??! Apparently, the pair had a meeting in the Def Jam offices, and Usher, Teairra Mari and Antonio L.A.Reid were also present. Jigga asked her to make an off-the-cuff performance for the heavyweights in the room, where she delivered a taste of her humorous verses. Hov was so impressed, that after an hour he offered Sov the chance to start working with some big names as soon as she was ready. She is now starting to cut some tracks in US with Missy Elliott's team. Talk about big pimpin’...And yes we know she looks like Sporty Spice.

Been hearing a lot of hype about this chick. Just listened for the first time. Kinda sounds like M.I.A. to me. Then again Im just now starting to get into the UK Grime thing. Definitly puts a rowdy vibe in the air and I can definitly dig that. So yea, Silk City is probably gonna be backed to the brim with dudes with trucker mustache's and a bunch of fanny pack wearing hipster chicks.
